From chicken scratch to reality.

And now for something different.   The Winter project is an Underwater ROV for exploring the depths to 3000 feet.  It was inspired by a phone call from Tufan, a Turkish marine archeologist who had worked on the Nautilus in the Black Sea for five years with Robert Ballard.  Tufan was interested in work we had done on small outrunner thrusters and ROV designs.  That conversation spiraled into us building an inspection ROV that would be towed behind a high dollar sidescan sonar that could fly off and inspect targets located by the sonar.  Saving having to drop an inspection ROV into the water and pull it back out before the survey could continue.  So we got started.  But a few months later Tufan's funding had fallen through and the war on the Crimean Peninsula was a factor as well.  But we still wanted to build the ROV because it is the tool we want to have on our boat.  Yes, we don't have a boat yet but if we build the ROV as an open source we would have a much better ROV once we were ready with the boat.   But without a high dollar sidescan sonar and 4000 feet of umbilical, we'd need to expand the project to included those as well.
