A great idea I saw on the ROVnet Forum was to add a gadget called a "Happy Hooker" to your ROV.  This is a double hinged device that is used to thread a 3/8" rope through or around an object.  It could be used to help you recover fishing poles, anchors,  jet ski's, etc.  They are sold at Stearns www.stearnsinc.com Part number: B203 for about $30, but once you have one in your hand you will see that it could easily be built from Plexiglas or aluminum sheet.  In the photo the gate between the two prongs is hinged on the left side.  Once the right side prong is through the steel ring the gate will latch into the hook on the end of the right side prong.  When the prongs are pulled back, the gate will hit the ring and un-snap from the left side prong.  Since the rope is tied to the gate, it will be pulled back through the ring.
